**Job Summary**

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an experienced **Chief of Mining** in Carlsbad, New Mexico.



The successful candidate will be responsible for the successful management and operation of those mine related activities at WIPP that focus on mine safety, ground control, MSHA regulations compliance and support, in a manner that ensures safe performance of mine operations. Key to success will be the ability to lead geotechnical and other assigned personnel in support of ensuring a safe and healthy mine. Will be expected to model NWP Core Values and Expectations by establishing his/her own vision and culture for the Mining organization that results in industry leading performance in safety, health, and environmental sustainability. Major areas of responsibility include: Effective management of mine safety programs ensuring exceptional compliance with MSHA regulations and compliance requirements. Establish and maintain effective relationships with MSHA representatives and representatives of other regulating agencies. Manage the mine’s geotechnical inspection and ground control functions ensuring safe mine structure and infrastructure working conditions for WIPP employees. Ensuring weekly and monthly operational plans and objectives for areas of responsibility are prepared and included in operational schedules to include both long term and short term plans. Preparation and management of the annual department budget. Developing and implementing technical standards, specifications, and quality assurance requirements for areas of responsibility, and in coordination with the NWP QA organization. Demonstrating commitment to the NWP Safety Culture, Core Values, and Expectations through visible and demonstrated leadership actions and behaviors.



**Minimum Requirements**



+ BS degree in Mining Engineering or related technical field required.

+ Minimum of 15 years of mining experience with increasing levels of responsibility including mine management required.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of and successful experience in managing mining operations to meet or exceed expectations regarding MSHA regulations and compliance requirements.

+ Demonstrated business acumen, decision making and problem solving skills.

+ Demonstrated experience leading organizations through successful implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of facility mine safety, human performance management, and safety culture.

+ Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizens.



**Preferred Qualifications**



+ Experience in mining geology (bedded salt) particularly in geology requiring stringent ground control monitoring and maintenance preferred.

+ Previous experience with Department of Energy projects or facilities is a plus.

+ Previous WIPP experience preferred.
