**Job Summary**

**Purpose and Scope:**

Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems and generally as a member of a design, analysis or review team on more complex assignments or as a lead on less complex assignments. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on complex laboratory equipment and systems with and without OEM/vendor support. Document maintenance procedures. Plan, schedule, manage and document maintenance activities. Provide ancillary laboratory support for design, fabrication, and documentation of fixtures, accessories, and support equipment.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

+ Performs a range of analysis, or review tasks independently.

+ May train other engineers on technical issues related to the maintenance, testing and analysis of laboratory equipment related assignments.

+ Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and management functions to support laboratory maintenance and operations.

+ Input to and maintain laboratory maintenance plans and procedures

+ Assist in determining critical spares to support maintenance activities

+ Operate laboratory Maximo and IDMS systems to view, manage, and maintain maintenance related data

+ Maintain libraries and databases to track maintenance documentation

+ Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation on laboratory maintenance and operation of system/subsystem and equipment.

+ Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels on laboratory maintenance and operations related activities.

+ Ensure safety while performing maintenance activities to protect personnel performing the maintenance activity, facility and laboratory occupants, and the equipment

+ Ensure that OEM maintenance agreements are generated, tracked and fulfilled for specified laboratory equipment

+ Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

+ Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.

+ Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

+ May organize and supervise a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance.

+ Provide support for Lab Safety Plans and reporting

+ Provide support for environmental management and general housekeeping

+ Provide cross training to other lab personnel

+ Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.

**Minimum Requirements**

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent. Five years of job-related laboratory maintenance and operations experience. Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. May be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Experience in maintenance and operation of cryogenic, high pressure gas, and vacuum systems. Working knowledge of National Instruments controllers for data acquisition and control, instrumentation, troubleshooting equipment, maintenance and operation of mass spectrometer leak test equipment. Working knowledge of KSC safety requirements, PVS, environmental and hazardous waste management. Certifications including Cryogenic Handler and High Pressure Gas Operator.
