AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Survey Instrument Operator / Technician for immediate employment in Columbia, SC for our Land Development team. Under the direction of the Party Chief, your responsibilities in this role will include, but are not limited to:

+ Adjusts and operates surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, levels, GPS, electronic distance-measuring equipment and data collectors

+ Positions and holds vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances and elevations

+ Lays out grids and determines horizontal and vertical controls

+ May record survey measurements and descriptive data using data collectors, notes, drawings, sketches and inked tracings

+ Searches for property irons and survey points

+ Compares survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data

+ Sets out and recovers stakes, marks and other monuments

**Minimum Requirements**

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ 0-2+ years of relevant experience

+ Basic understanding of the equipment and technology for surveying activities

+ Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor work environment subject to hot/cold temperatures and uneven terrain

+ Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

+ Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record in good standing
