**Job Summary**

Our Remediation team are looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Consultant to focus on contaminated land and remediation projects across the Midlands. As an integral member of the EHS & Remediation Services team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of contaminated land assessments including Environmental Impact Assessments. You will provide support in the delivery of services to private and public sector clients including multinational industrials, the nuclear industry, financial services, local authorities and other government agencies in addition to other internal teams across the business in the delivery of multi-discipline design, build and construction schemes.

Nationally our Remediation Services team is one of the largest in the UK and provides one-stop access to a variety of services. The Birmingham office has an established track record of successfully delivering land contamination assessments and remediation works throughout the country. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background in land contamination assessment that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

The team provides services ranging from desk studies, site investigation, risk assessment, remediation (strategy development, design, implementation and validation), monitoring and close-out on a wide range of contracts.

Our Local Remediation Services team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients across a broad range of sectors. Our clients are from the private and public sector; and include global oil & gas companies, the nuclear industry, Fortune 500 multinational corporations, regulatory bodies and agencies (e.g. Environment Agency, HCA and local authorities). We also support other AECOM business lines where their projects have a Remediation Services interface.

**Job description:**

This Environmental Consultant will work within the team providing project management support including work on Phase I and II contaminated land assessments and remediation projects; as well as ensure client satisfaction through implementation of projects. The appointed person will be expected to take on junior project management tasks including making the necessary arrangements beforehand for any fieldwork, production of reporting deliverables, assisting in setting budgets and management of project fees and expenditure.

Further responsibilities include:

+ To ensure that health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.

+ To work within a team, undertaking desk studies, site investigations, laboratory procurement for environmental analysis, data analysis, factual and interpretive report writing.

+ To assist project managers in developing proposals for ground investigations and remediation projects.

+ To coordinate field service subcontractors and fully supervise ground investigation works including management of site H&S and oversight of contractors.

+ To collect soil, groundwater and gas samples/data during assessment and remedial action activities at various sites in the UK.

+ To coordinate with laboratories to secure appropriate analysis and in a timetable consistent with project requirements.

+ To complete borehole logs for utilisation in site review and reporting.

+ To compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive conceptual site models.

+ To learn the AECOM quality management system and ensure its effective implementation by the team for all projects and proposals.

Within the EHS & Remediation services discipline, you will be involved in projects supporting a range of objectives including planning and development, compliance and permitting, due diligence and remediation offing a wide range of experience and wide ranging opportunities for progression in the future to successful candidates


**Minimum Requirements**

For this role you will ideally hold a strong undergraduate degree in an environmental, science or engineering based subject. Relevant work or voluntary experience would be highly desirable. We are particularly looking for candidates with the following skills:


+ Previous hands on experience within field investigation, including site management, drilling supervision, collection of groundwater and ground gas samples, as well as field data.

+ Previously supervised subcontractors in intrusive ground investigations

+ Experience with the development and assessment of a CSM.


+ Good understanding of contaminated land assessments

+ Working knowledge of CDM regulations and site management

+ SMSTS a preference.

+ Working knowledge of MS Office applications.


+ Strong research and report writing (including web based research).

+ Strong numerate skills.

+ Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English); fluency in other languages is an advantage.

+ Strong quality and time management.

+ Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.

+ Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.

+ Willingness and ability to learn new tasks.

+ Ability to perform well in a team environment.

+ Flexible and hard working.

+ Full Driving Licence.

**Preferred Qualifications**

A strong undergraduate degree in a science or engineering based subject.
