**Job Summary**

AECOM is continuing to expand its fluvial geomorphology expertise in both environmental and engineering projects. The successful applicant for the Fluvial Geomorphologist position will be a motivated individual, excited to contribute to the growth of the fluvial geomorphology practice area within AECOM – in Ontario and across Canada. We are currently looking to further strengthen our stream restoration capabilities in Ontario, specifically in the field of Natural Channel Design. The successful applicant for this position will be a motivated individual, with a background in fluvial geomorphology or river engineering, and practical experience in Natural Channel Design. He or she will work with AECOM’s senior fluvial geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, and ecologists to deliver various stream restoration projects, including restoration of natural processes and habitat conditions, erosion control and fish passage improvements. Depending on the applicant’s background and interest, opportunities exist within AECOM to grow further experience in other hydraulic or geoscience fields including limnology.

The role can be based out of our Kitchener, Guelph, Hamilton or Richmond Hill offices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Supporting ‘Natural Channel Design’ and stream restoration projects

+ Designing and conducting detailed field investigations under senior staff mentorship

+ Analyzing and interpreting geomorphic and hydraulic data

+ Working collaboratively across offices and disciplines

+ Maintaining an understanding of current approaches, methods and protocols in channel design

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor’s degree in a relevant earth sciences or engineering discipline (e.g. geomorphology, river engineering, physical geography)

+ 2+ years of experience in stream restoration and design

+ Familiarity with Natural Channel Design approaches, from concept development through to detailed design, construction implementation and monitoring

+ Knowledge of fluvial form, processes and functions – including their dependence on local physiography and their influence on ecological habitats

+ Experience in applying analytical tools/equations (empirical, theoretical) to characterize the fluvial system

+ Demonstrated ability to manage personal project workload and meet deadlines

+ Membership or eligibility for membership of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) or Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEng.)

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ 5+ years of experience in stream restoration and design

+ Proficiency in aerial photography interpretation and familiarity with GIS and/or AutoCAD

+ Previous experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team, interacting with aquatic ecologists, water resources engineers and fluvial geomorphologists

+ Familiarity with permits and approvals pertaining to streams and valleys in Ontario
