**Job Summary**

AECOM is currently seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic 3 in support of U.S. Air Force maintenance operations at Holloman AFB NM. This contract consists of F-16 Block 40 aircraft organizational level (O-level) assigned to the 54th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (54AMXS), 7th and 8th Aircraft Maintenance Units (AMU) contractor operation and Intermediate level (I-Level) supplementing the 54th Maintenance Squadron (54 MXS) and 49 MXS to support flying training for the 56th Fighter Wing (56 FW), 54th Fighter Group (54 FG), training mission at Holloman AFB (HAFB), NM.

The Aircraft Mechanic 3 / Sheet Metal designs, repairs, modifies and fabricates aircraft, metal, plastic, composite, advanced composite, low observables, and bonded structural parts and components. Applies preservative treatments to aircraft, missiles, and support equipment (SE).

Essential responsibilities:

1. Assembles structural parts and components to meet requirements for preserving structural integrity and low observable qualities.

2. Assesses damage to aircraft structural components and low observable coatings. Advises on structural and low observable repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatment with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural and low observable integrity. Ensures aircraft component balance is maintained. Assembles repairs using special fasteners and adhesives. Checks repairs for serviceability according to specifications and technical publications. Manufactures jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds.

3. Paints aircraft, missiles, and support equipment (SE). Identifies, removes and treats corrosion using mechanical and chemical procedures. Applies corrosion protective and low observable coatings. Applies aircraft paint schemes and markings.

4. Uses metalworking equipment and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.

5. Fabricates, repairs, and assembles tubing and cable assemblies for aerospace weapon systems and SE. Maintains and inspects tools and equipment. Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools. Ensures lockout and tag out procedures are accomplished prior to performing shop equipment maintenance.

6. Stores, handles and disposes of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards.

7. Inspects structures and components and determines operational status. Interprets inspection findings, and determines corrective action adequacy. Posts entries and maintains maintenance and inspection records. Recommends methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures. Uses automated maintenance systems. Inputs, validates, and analyzes data processed to automated systems. Clears and closes out completed maintenance discrepancies in automated maintenance systems.

8. Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.

This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

9. May perform as a Sheet Metal Team Lead. Team Leads provide technical expertise and training to shop personnel on all aspects of the F-16 associated structural systems, training management, and common maintenance practices, and shop safety procedures. Enforces strict usage of all applicable technical data. Documents maintenance actions and historical records.

Knowledge is mandatory of aircraft construction features; identification and characteristics of aerospace materials; repair of metal, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components; shop drawing and sheet metal layout techniques; shop mathematics; corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention; cleaning of metals; application of protective coatings, low observable materials, and markings; proper use, mixing, and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints; and proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste and smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, in which case questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Night work may be required. Position will require the ability to pass and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Candidate also must pass an FBI fingerprint check prior to being offered employment. **Minimum Requirements**

* Must be a High School graduate or equivalent with a minimum seven (7) years actual and recent aircraft maintenance experience is required.

* Must have completed military aviation maintenance training or aviation maintenance technical school curriculum or possess an FAA issued A&P license.

* Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.

* Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.

* A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.

* Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.

* Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check.

* Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
