**Job Summary**

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Piping Designer III or Piping Designer IV to work in the Houston, TX office. This position involves the design and drafting of 3D CAD based equipment and piping for the energy, oil, gas and petrochemical industry facility projects independently or in coordination with other designers, including those located in remote offices and high value centers.

Designer III

+ Under general supervision of the Design Supervisor or Design Lead, develops engineering facility and piping designs of moderate complexity

+ Produces plot plans, general arrangements, equipment arrangements, piping plans and sections, piping isometrics and underground piping drawings using 2D and 3D CAD systems

+ Prepares material lists, including piping line, valve and specialty items lists

+ Coordinates assigned facility and piping design with that of other designers, including those in other disciplines

+ Understands the process of preparing designs using project specifications in accordance with established design basis, practices, standards, and procedures

+ Fully understands the purpose and use of suppliers documents and reviews piping supplier documents for conformance with the design

+ Assists in the collection of data on staffing, work-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff

+ Basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs piping material take-offs

+ Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change

OR

Designer IV

+ Under minimal supervision of the Design Supervisor or Design Lead, develops engineering facility and piping designs of moderate to high complexity

+ Produces plot plans, general arrangements, equipment arrangements, piping plans and sections, piping isometrics and underground piping drawings using 2D and 3D CAD systems

+ Prepares complete and accurate material lists, including piping line, valve and specialty items lists

+ Ensures coordination of facility and piping design with that of other engineers and designers, including those in other disciplines

+ Fully understands the process of preparing designs using project specifications in accordance with established design basis, practices, standards, and procedures

+ Fully understands the purpose and use of suppliers documents and reviews supplier documents for conformance with the design, including that of other disciplines

+ Fully understands the use of material requisitions and the role of materials management, and provides technical review for purchase orders and subcontracts

+ Collects data on staffing, work-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff

+ Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs complete and accurate piping material take-offs

+ Intermediate knowledge of concept of forecasting material quantities

+ Intermediate knowledge of the project change control process and identifies potential change

+ May provide technical guidance to less experienced design staff

**Minimum Requirements**

Piping Designer III

Education:

+ Associates degree in mechanical engineering, Computer Aided Design/Drafting or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience:

+ 5 years of process and utility piping and facility EPC design experience with energy, oil, gas or petrochemical industry projects

+ Previous brownfield experience with the design of midstream or unconventional oil and gas processing facilities

+ Experience with piping systems for projects valued $10MM - 50MM total installed cost

+ Intermediate understanding of piping system materials, components and assembly

+ Advanced proficiency in production modeling using AutoCAD Plant 3D or CADWorx

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel

OR

Piping Designer IV

Education:

+ Associates degree in mechanical engineering, Computer Aided Design/Drafting or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience:

+ 6 years of process and utility piping and facility EPC design experience with energy, oil, gas or petrochemical industry projects

+ Previous brownfield experience with the design of midstream or unconventional oil and gas processing facilities.

+ Experience with piping systems for projects valued $10MM - 50MM total installed cost

+ Intermediate understanding of piping system materials, components and assembly

+ Advanced proficiency in production modeling using AutoCAD Plant 3D or CADWorx

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel

**Preferred Qualifications**

Experience:

+ Previous experience in working with high value engineering centers as part of the design team

+ Proficient in production modeling using Intergraph Smart 3D

+ Previous experience in replication of standardized facility designs

+ Previous experience in OSBL design of utilities and offsites for a project valued>$300MM total installed cost

+ Previous experience in navigating 3D model reviews

+ Previous field experience in support of construction, commissioning or operations

Additional Information:

+ Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain one.

+ Must be able to travel to field project locations and traverse ladders, stairs and platforms with appropriate personnel protective equipment for field reconnaissance and to produce field sketches in support of design and construction.
