Job Description

We are currently seeking a Regional Landscape Architect Design Lead (Sr Landscape Architect) to join our team.  As a Regional Landscape Architect Design Lead , the regional planning practice in project design and delivery, client relations, and staff development. Assists the Region in developing and executing regional strategies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design Leadership

  • A strong advocate for quality, innovative design for Planning, Urban Design and/or Landscape Architecture in the region.
  • Understands the industry, regional client sensitivities, and market drivers.
  • Fosters a culture of external and internal client service.
  • Responsible for promoting and maintaining HOK’s design reputation.
  • Leads design teams, providing overall conceptual direction to ensure high-quality design.
  • Responsible for conceptual design excellence; initiates project design and idea discussions.
  • Designs and manages planning, urban design and landscape architecture projects.
  • Demonstrates creative thinking abilities and contributes to firmwide design excellence and problem solving.
  • Demonstrates reliable understanding of the relationship between design and constructability.
  • Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Continually contributes to the upgrade of the design process, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and consultants.
  • Actively promotes collaborative and innovative culture.

Business Development

  • Maintains and grows current client relationships.
  • Participates in regional Planning marketing and business development opportunities, proposals, interviews and presentations.
  • Develops and maintains positive industry relationships (i.e. with consultants, contractors and jurisdictional/approval agencies) to support HOK’s standing in the regional marketplace.
  • Participates in the Planning industry activities by way of speaking, presenting and/or writing to enhance the Planning practice’s thought leadership.

Staff Development

  • Promotes and supports diversity
  • Participates in recruiting of Planning related staff
  • Serves as mentor/advisor to Planning related staff fostering a positive team environment
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated creativity, passion and interest in design and planning of Planning focused projects.
  • Advanced knowledge in planning/landscape architecture/urban design, design development and project leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Ability to manage design with a collaborative style which puts value on relationships, both internal and external.
  • Basic understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Proven ability to prioritize oneself and the work of others in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients and internal staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of architecture including the following computer skills:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, GIS, Ecotect, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in NewForma preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, urban design or planning, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 plus years’ experience, with at least 5 years within a management/leadership role.
  • Registration with current license required if offered in your region.
  • LEED AP or GA required within 12 months of employment
