**Job Summary**

AECOM are currently expanding their already substantial Traffic and Local Roads team in our Chesterfield office.

We work for a number of clients with a significant portion of our work being for the Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA); a group of 21 local authorities in the Midlands area of the UK with AECOM as the sole provider of professional and technical services.

The successful candidate will be recently chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget. They will have experience of working as part of project teams developing concepts, feasibilities, preliminary design, detailed design, specifications, bills, and overall project management for a variety of highway and traffic schemes, urban realm and public transport improvements.

We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. For the Senior grade we are looking for people who have gained team management skills, who will provide highways technical experience and mentoring to other team members. As such the successful candidate(s) will have demonstrable highways experience, show both technical and leadership qualities and have experience of a variety of highway schemes. We expect the successful candidate(s) to work closely with our clients and take responsibility for delivering quality products to strict financial and programme targets.

Office Overview:

The Chesterfield office has an established track record of successfully delivering transportation projects throughout the UK in both the urban and rural environment. The office is located in East Midlands with good transportation connections. The office has a full range of capabilities including Environment, Structures, Health & Safety, together with a full transportation design and planning capability. We are now looking to enhance and grow the Traffic and Local Roads team with an individual, or individuals, with a sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design, project management and site supervision as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of highway and traffic projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface.

Our clients are from the private and public sector and include Highways England, Derbyshire County Council, Leicestershire County Council and Horizon Power. Collaborative working with both our clients and our supply chain partners is fundamental to our success.

Our recent/ current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international projects including:

+ M3 J2 to J4a Smart Motorway

+ M1 J29 Improvements

+ Darfoulds Bridge

+ High Peak Bridleways

+ Mill Lane Roundabout and Link Road

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical and project management expertise is required in order that the Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to a high standard;

+ Receive project brief and carry out briefing of the junior team members and lead on analysing data, development of design drawings and report production.

+ Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.

+ Act as a Project Manager (once accredited) as necessary including monitoring financial performance. This includes both AECOM Project Management and overall Project Management for the client.

+ Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.

+ Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.

+ Attend/ lead project progress meetings.

+ Prepare detailed client briefs or fee proposals for Manager approval, and contribute to major bids.

+ Provide technical input, technical leadership and project management across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering

+ Reporting to the Directors you will undertake a variety of tasks providing as an individual or through team effort, a range of design and written deliverables.

+ Show technical leadership, and through experience, mentor and guide the skills of others in computer based applications and tasks including the use of software such as MX, AutoCAD, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MSProject.

+ Take a lead role on projects within particular skill area – e.g. drainage team leader, pavement design leader, geometric layout etc.

+ Plan, lead and undertake site visits, as required.

+ Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.

+ Liaison with sub-consultants and external parties, as required.

+ Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office discipline and project.

+ Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment.

**Minimum Requirements**

You will have excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of undertaking a range of highway/ traffic engineering design projects.

+ Demonstrate experience of Highway/ Traffic Engineering design at concept, feasibility, and preliminary and detailed design level.

+ Understanding of Health and Safety including PSDP responsibilities.

+ Working on a variety of projects as project manager or task manager leader.

+ Urban street, traffic signal, cycling, walking, road safety, public transport, ITS and parking design.

+ Application and use of DMRB, Manual for Streets and the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals.

+ Proficient user of AutoCAD.

+ Dealing directly with clients.

+ Contributing to bids and proposals.

+ Mentoring junior staff.

+ Able to offer experience and proficiency in two or more of the key areas;

+ Alignment design,

+ Drainage design,

+ Pavement design and refurbishment

+ Signs and road markings,

+ Safety barrier

+ Management of design and delivery of highway maintenance schemes

+ Experience of preparing written work

+ Experience of preparing for and attending meetings with clients and/or statutory consultees.

**Preferred Qualifications**

You will have a relevant degree (BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant subject) and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution (MICE and or MCIHT).
