About this Opportunity
As a Performance Senior Engineer, you'll apply engineering theories and concepts to assignments in support of business objectives under minimal supervision and provide engineering leadership and expertise. You will conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower and cost estimates, and develop engineering criteria. You'll also perform analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, and components. In addition, you will apply originality, ingenuity, and knowledge of other disciplines in solving complex problems. Emphasis in your work will be placed on your team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

  • Actively participate in the development of engineering and quality processes and recommend process improvements.
  • Apply learned engineering skills to your work assignments.
  • Apply problem-solving skills and executes solutions to difficult problems independently.
  • Apply supply chain cost, value stream capabilities, and economic principles.
  • Coach engineering tasks and skills to others.
  • Define and complete engineering tasks with minimal oversight of leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to products and processes.
  • Independently develop and apply engineering approaches to projects and assignments.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Present work output in a clear and concise manner.
  • Provide proposal and planning of projects to the budget owner using the appropriate request process.
  • Document and maintain a comprehensive set of test specifications and acceptance criteria to ensure product safety and quality for global markets.
  • Ensure the validity of product performance criteria through the evaluation of marketing requirements, customer feedback, field research, competitive product performance, and application of experience.
  • Apply statistical techniques to ensure reliable product performance.
  • Continuously improve product performance tests and criteria to capture learning, enhance product performance, decrease warranty, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Create complex test plans to evaluate a wide range of products for the purpose of ensuring reliable performance and compliance to industry standards while minimizing testing costs and time.
  • Document, summarize, and communicate the status of validation testing with project teams. You will identify and communicate product performance risks and initiate plans to minimize risk.
  • Investigate and track various modes of product failure. You'll aid Product Engineers in root cause investigation and implement new tests and acceptance criteria to evaluate and prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in and influence external standards development activities, such as through BIFMA.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have...
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Four to seven years of professional engineering experience with a proven competency in achieving results.
  • Project management experience (may be essential for some assignments). Process engineer is preferred for some assignments.
  • Knowledge in Lean principles and their application.
  • The ability to assess process concepts and determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with people at various levels including production, engineering, and management, and the ability to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
  • Knowledge in the use of common office automation/communication software and tools, Herman Miller mainframe applications, and engineering-related software.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering expertise to solving problems.
  • The ability to assess priorities and determine a course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision, and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.
  • An overall business sense and an understanding of how decisions impact business results.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent.
  • Experience working in a mechanical laboratory environment using electronic instrumentation and performing data analysis.
  • Experience writing test methods and product performance specifications.
  • Experience applying statistics to test data and interpreting results.
