**Job Summary**

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Scientist / Hydrogeologist for immediate employment in the Glen Allen, VA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Apply geologic and hydrogeological principles, practices, and technologies to develop environmental remediation solutions for contamination at hazardous waste sites in Virginia and surrounding states

+ Developing technically astute Conceptual Site Models for understanding groundwater contamination flow and transport

+ Designing statistically robust groundwater monitoring programs to evaluate hazardous waste sites

+ Planning and directing environmental sampling (groundwater, soil, and vapor) and critically evaluating laboratory data

+ Implementing solutions and offering innovations to remediate contaminated groundwater sites

+ Supervising junior staff implementation of remedial actions such as installation and abandonment of monitoring wells, drilling boreholes, substrate injections, or in-situ stabilization of contaminated soil

+ Reviewing junior staff’s technical assessment of soil cores to create detailed geologic cross-sections of subsurface lithology

+ Designing aquifer tests to determine hydraulic properties

+ Overseeing the technically correct preparation of potentiometric maps of groundwater elevations

+ Researching and ensuring compliance with federal, state (Virginia), and local regulations

+ Supervising junior technical staff as they prepare regulatory-compliant, and client-positive remediation work plans, investigations, and reports for commercial or federal clients in Virginia

+ Training and leadership development in remediation and environmental site assessment

+ Manage multi-discipline teams to deliver large comprehensive reports and studies related to market-driven regulatory actions

+ Actively communicating in high-pace environments requiring organic decision-making

+ Possessing in-depth knowledge of Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) § 257.100(b)(5) and proficiency in applying to studies, assessments, and turn-key consulting evaluations

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Hydrogeology

+ 10+ years of experience as an environmental consultant, specifically to meet Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) requirements

+ Professional Geologist registration in Virginia

+ Must be able to qualify for and obtain Project Management accreditation

+ A successful candidate is able write and to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner

+ Ability to organize data in a clear fashion using databases/ graphs

+ Ability to recommend more sophisticated hydrogeologic tools such as models and statistical methods

+ A grasp of statistical principles as applied to contaminated waste site management is essential

+ Must be able to oversee and work productively with junior technical staff and subcontractors while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are met

+ Relevant, recent, direct experience negotiating with VDEQ on site assessment strategies and cleanup program objectives

+ Excellent knowledge of Virginia environmental regulatory requirements for contaminated groundwater sites for energy clients

+ Excellent understanding of health and safety requirements to work on contaminated land projects

+ Demonstrated experience working in Virginia for industrial, manufacturing, chemical, or power clients

+ Experience developing and preparing reports regarding regulatory compliance for hazardous constituents in soil and groundwater for submittal and acceptance for technical client and state agency review

+ Experience with site investigation techniques, developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies

+ Working knowledge of MS Office applications (e.g., word, excel and standard office software)

+ Strong team worker, flexible and hard working

+ Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work

+ Strong communication skills at all levels

+ Organized and able to manage multiple tasks/projects at a time

+ Provide technical supervision of subcontractors and ensure work scopes and safety requirements are met

+ OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification, and current 8-hour refresher
