About this Opportunity
As a Senior Writer/Editor - Consumer, you'll analyze communications-related needs at a strategic level and participate in developing, implementing, and executing programs to address communication. You will serve as a concept developer and writer/editor for customer-focused marketing efforts, new and ongoing, ensuring content and voice are on brand.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with team members throughout Sales, Marketing, Dealer Distribution, Operations, and other parts of the corporation as needed to develop and refine content for various communications.
  • Develop SEO/SEM friendly content that meets the needs of our overall digital strategy.
  • Manage external resources as required, producing content for both assigned programs and short-term projects.
  • Network with Salespeople, dealers, and A D on an ongoing basis, serving as a liaison, information gatherer, and group facilitator in order to ascertain needs and strengthen the presence of Marketing with those audiences.
  • Participate on cross-functional project teams, serving as the Writer/Communications representative to ensure that content meets objectives and expectations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Support social media platforms with content that furthers the corporation's digital strategy.
  • Support the writing/communication initiatives associated with supporting the Herman Miller brand.
  • Support the writing/communications initiatives of Sales and Marketing, including writing and editing work on such projects as corporate and product-related materials, e-marketing campaigns, website, blog posts, etc., while supporting the Herman Miller brand.
  • Through proofreading, editing, and writing, ensure that appropriate content and brand voice are followed for assigned programs within the communications model for customer and sales/dealer audiences.
  • Understand the broad context of Herman Miller's strategic objectives and the brand strategy through which we plan to achieve our objectives in the market.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have...

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field or curriculum. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Five to eight years of experience in corporate, employee, or marketing communications, with editorial involvement from concept development to graphic production, both print and electronic. You'll also need demonstrated talent and proficiency in analytical thinking, writing, and editing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with all levels and functions within the corporation to foster partnership and teamwork.
  • A demonstrated understanding of web layout and usability guidelines, as well as the practical applications of SEO/SEM strategies as it relates to content.
  • The ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools used in the Herman Miller office environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Polycom videoconferencing. You'll also need basic knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and other desktop publishing software.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrable experience in customer-facing writing. Whether for a catalog, website, or brick-and-mortar retail (ideally all three), you should know how to tell the stories that get people to buy.
  • A background in content strategy for a multi-platform, multi-channel consumer business. You will need to be able to write great copy and connect the dots between the various ways it gets to consumers.
  • Experience devising and executing commercial campaigns.
  • Fluency in the major players, brands, and products that comprise the modern design landscape.
