**Job Summary**

The Transportation division of AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a creative, highly talented Bridge Engineering Manager to join our Bridges and Structures Design team in Burnaby, British Columbia. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in transportation, preferably with experience in Bridge Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivery of a range of projects for both private and public sector clients. The transportation business in Vancouver is made up of professional and technical experts in the highways, planning, airports, bridges and rail disciplines.

As a Team Leader your responsibilities will include coaching, mentoring, forecasting workload, planning workflow and driving team performance. Ultimately you will be responsible for the collaboration and successful delivery of a range of projects for both private and public sector clients. You will also be expected to be the bid manager and lead on preparing technical proposals for local and potentially large complex international projects. Business development will also be an integral part of your role as a senior engineer.

As a senior transport/structural bridge engineer your knowledge and understanding of delivery expectations must be understood to effectively lead as projects are executed under conventional or alternative delivery models. Moreover, less experienced staff will seek guidance and direction making a strong understanding of structural and building codes (preferably the CHBDC CAN/CSA S6 Code Standard) critical. Implied is an ability to complete a bridge design from planning through to detailed design stages for steel, concrete and wood structures. Enjoyment of deriving technical solutions from a pragmatic understanding of empirical theories is an attribute.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Management of staff including development, mentorship, and recruitment of your direct reports

+ Support client relationships by performance, service and effective communication

+ Project management responsibilities including financial, quality and schedule management of projects

+ Preparation of reports, proposals, and other documentation for clients, review agencies, and the public

+ Coordination of bridge design activities for Burnaby in concert with other offices across Canada

+ Effectively communicate workload requirements to senior manager and manage resources on projects

+ Taking a lead technical design role and ensure compliance with current design standards

+ Undertake technical analysis, including developing new methods and techniques, to complete complex or unique studies

+ Direct and assist technical staff with design and review work undertaken by them to ensure that all deliverables are completed to a high degree of accuracy and to AECOM’s Quality Standards

+ Promote and maintain a safety culture that keeps staff healthy and safe and protects the company’s assets

+ Assist with staff development, and provide input and recommendations relative to staff needs, performance, and remuneration

+ Works independently with general guidance

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution

+ 10+ years in structural/transport bridge design and construction with recent structural/transportbridge design experience

+ Licensed Professional Engineer in British Columbia (or eligible for registration)

+ Experience in successfully managing structural/transportbridge projects

+ Experience in consultancy, both the business and contracts

+ Ability to market AECOM and services directly to potential clients

+ Experience with business and contractual agreements

+ Strong financial acumen

+ Experience in directing small teams of engineers and technicians

+ Familiarity with structural codes, building codes, bridge design guidelines, specifications and technical standards

+ Experience participating in multi-disciplinary engineering projects, with ability to manage and coordinate supporting design inputs- drainage, roadway, lighting, aesthetics, etc.

+ Ability to work independently

+ Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills are a must

+ Working knowledge of structural modelling software

+ Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems, and completes the task with minimal supervision

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline is preferred

+ Ideal candidates will have recent experience in delivering of western Canada projects, primarily BC and Alberta

+ A good relationship with the BC MOTI staff, policies and procedures

+ Familiarity with BC Ministry of Transportation’s Bridge Design Guidelines, Specifications and Technical Standards

+ Working relationships with the various BC and metro Vancouver area municipalities and the Port Metro Vancouver

+ Demonstrated track record of delivering a range of technical projects from new build to rehabilitation

+ A working knowledge of Finite Element analysis and modelling

+ Demonstrated track record of delivering a range of technical projects from new build to rehabilitation

+ Candidates that are active in the local British Columbia community and are involved with professional affiliates such as CEA, APEG BC and PMI-Canada British Columbia Chapter
