Bid Writer

Birmingham, AL

Business Line Support/Cross Services

Position Title Bid Writer

United Kingdom - West Midlands

Job Summary

AECOMs Bid Studio manages the Companys largest and most strategic tender submissions across both established and emerging markets. Bringing together bid management, co-ordination, writing, visualisation and knowledge professionals and through a culture of collaboration and sharing - the Studio creates a focus for major pursuits and a centre for learning and excellence.

To support our growth plans, we are recruiting a Bid Writer to be based in our centrally-located Birmingham office. With experience of producing technically accurate, well written and excellently presented expressions of interest and tender submissions, this individual will share our enthusiasm and determination to be part of a winning team.

Whilst positioned as a writer, the expectation is that the individual will be involved throughout the full breadth of the work winning lifecycle. In addition to the writing phase they will also work with colleagues to understand the opportunity, define the win strategy, plan response content and contribute to the libraries which the Studio maintains. In doing so, they will work collaboratively with other Bid Studio members, technical teams in our end markets and leadership.

The successful candidate will work in a challenging, dynamic and deadline driven team environment to contribute to major tenders from prequalification to proposal stages. They will be responsible for translating complex technical approaches and ideas into clear, well-written, differentiating and high quality responses.

We see writing as an integral part of the work winning process rather than a narrowly defined activity which takes place post bid launch. Our writers are naturally curious and proactive in asking questions to shape complete and compelling responses we encourage individuals to have an inquisitive and journalistic nature, hunting down the story from the outset.

With an eye for identifying continuous improvement and learning, the successful candidate will play a key role in submitting best practice responses to our libraries, delivering appropriate training to upskill technical teams and in the ongoing preparation and maintenance of supporting information (including project data sheets and CVs).

Working as part of a collaborative team which provides development opportunities for all, we encourage the transfer of skills within the Studio. Our Writers therefore understand and, where appropriate, support Bid Managers in their roles and vice versa. Applications are welcomed from those who are able to bridge such disciplines.

Minimum Requirements

We are keen to build the post around the successful individual and, depending upon seniority and experience, line management of other Studio members may also be appropriate.

  • Experience of working in a work winning environment including demonstrating an understanding of bid management and quality systems and the importance of adhering to processes/systems

  • A proven writing background (ideally within the infrastructure sector)

  • Excellent stakeholder building and management skills including ability to build credibility with senior colleagues and provide critique of others' work while maintaining positive relationships
