Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Protective Relay Engineer for immediate employment for the Moffett Field, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Using SKM software for creating models of all high, medium, and low voltage systems and maintain existing models

  • Perform calculation for setting protection relays

  • Support project design and construction of relay and associated control functions

  • Provide short circuit, loading and arc flash information during design

  • Design relay, automation and control diagrams for new projects

  • Assist with review of shop drawings for system associated with the protective relaying and networking

  • Install final settings in the devices prior to acceptance testing, supply the contractor with the final settings for use in acceptance testing, review acceptance testing documentation, and inspect installation of protective relays and networking

  • Assist NASA Protective Relay Operation group in testing of new relays and devices

  • Work with the operators to develop new relaying schemes to improve the operation of the high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage electrical systems

  • Calculate settings for and assist with the setting of the medium voltage, padmounted switches

  • Make sure all new relay data is input into the EPrO (Electrical Power Reliability Office) Database

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power systems

  • 10+ years of experience in building/industrial/utility engineering

  • CA Professional Engineer Registration

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of common building engineering codes and standards such as the NEC, NFPA, IESNA, IEEE and NETA

  • Working knowledge of common design methodologies for switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable

  • frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, various raceway systems and underground medium voltage distribution

  • Understanding of electrical power requirements for HVAC systems and interface with utilities

  • Understanding of electrical power controls and ladder logic

  • Ability to travel for work to other sites

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of protective relay design principles and practices for electro-mechanical, solid-state and microprocessor-based (SEL)

  • Ability to perform field investigation work near energized electrical equipment from 50V to 115kV

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated locations such as roof tops

  • Ability to work in confined spaces

  • Knowledge of medium (15kV) and high voltage substation (115kV) layout and controls

  • Working knowledge of Revit a plus but not required

  • MSEE with emphasis on electric power systems a plus
