This is an opportunity to serve Texans by managing the safety, operations, scheduling, and performance of a team that plays an important role in the electric utility industry. LCRA Transmission Services is looking for an individual to lead a team of Meter Technicians and Meter Data Management System (MDMS) Operators in the System Controls group. This position utilizes knowledge and previous experience to lead and mentor while carrying out LCRA’s mission of service. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, adept in technology, and has a strong ability to problem solve.

Responsibilities -- 

• Provides leadership and direction to staff. Hires, trains, assigns work, evaluates and manages performance, determines compensation of subordinate staff in compliance with human resources policies and handles all aspects of staff supervision. Maintains awareness of department issues and responds to employee needs and concerns. Communicates with employees to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information.
• Develops and manages department budget. Ensures expenditures are appropriate and within approved budget.
• Provides technical oversight, coordination of work and resolution of issues for one or more areas of substation operations.
• Ensures appropriate tools and procedures are applied to assigned area(s) of substation operations.
• Provides leadership to analysis of problems such as faults, event records and failures in data collection.
• Ensures design, development and refinement of system configurations, tests and operational procedures are in compliance with NERC and ERCOT regulations, standards and protocols.
• Ensures firmware and software remain current. Works with technical specialists to resolve firmware and software issues.
• In conjunction with technical specialists, evaluates new equipment and makes recommendations to management and engineering teams.
• Ensures documentation of changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record keeping practices.
• Performs work by traveling independently or with a small crew to substations as necessary


- Nine or more years of experience in the construction and/or maintenance of power substation protection, SCADA, diagnostic, metering, monitoring and/or control systems; experience troubleshooting and repairing SCADA, telecommunications and/or protective relay problems; experience designing and developing transmission operations test and/or maintenance procedures and equipment configurations; as well as leadership experience. 
- A degree(s) in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, industrial maintenance or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.  
- Driver's license

• Knowledge of principles, practices, tools and test equipment pertinent to assigned area
• Knowledge of data communications
• Knowledge of database utilities and data management
• Skill in providing leadership, direction and supervision to staff
• Skill in providing training and coaching to staff
• Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems
• Advanced skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints
• Skill in verbal and written communication
• Skill in planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating work within assigned work area
• Skill in communicating effectively with team members, supervision / management and external organizations under normal and emergency conditions
• Skill in articulating complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to provide quality assurance/quality control of test and maintenance procedures
• Basic skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
• Ability to build relationships and foster teamwork
• Ability to balance competing and high priority work demands
• Ability to analyze system fault and event records
